Hair
We recommend a bun for all classes, however it is a requirement for ballet and acro.
Shoes
We highly recommend MDM footwear for the superior support their shoes provide, however if you have other brands you are still able to wear them at BDA. To learn why we highly recommend MDM footwear please watch the short video: Why MDM?
Ballet
A BDA leotard is required for class (1), Pre-level students also have the option of a Tutu leotard (2). Crop tops are not allowed for any ages. This must be accompanied by pink ballet tights and split sole pink ballet shoes. An elastic strap on all ballet shoes is required. Please ensure you teach your child to tie the elastic at the front of the shoe into a bow and tuck it in to the shoe. This should not be sticking out. All students from Bronze Medal and above must have ribbons on their shoes for exams and concert, elastic is allowed for classes. Pointe students will require correctly fitted pointe shoes with one inch wide ribbon. Boys wear a white BDA singlet (9) with black BDA shorts (8) for class work, for exams above Bronze Medal they will need a boys/mens leotard. Boys wear black ballet shoes with a black elastic strap.
Jazz, Tap & Musical Theatre
Students are able to wear a BDA leotard (1) or Crop (3) with either BDA Shorts (4), BDA 3/4 Tights (5) or BDA Black Full length tights (6). All students will require Tan Jazz shoes for concert and exams. Black or Tan shoes are fine for class work. Students can wear tan jazz tights but this is not compulsory. Boys wear a white BDA singlet (9) with black BDA shorts (8). Boys will wear black jazz shoes with black ankle socks.
Contemporary and Lyrical
Students are able to wear a BDA leotard (1) or Crop (3) with either BDA Shorts (4), BDA 3/4 Tights (5) or BDA Black Full length tights (6). Students will require half soles for lyrical or bare feet for contemporary. Boys wear a white BDA singlet (9) with black BDA shorts (8). Knee pads will be required on occasion.
Hip Hop
All students will need a BDA Hip Hop T-shirt (10). This can be paired with any of the BDA shorts or tights (4, 5, 6, 8) but students are also allowed to wear black tights or pants as long as they can freely move/stretch etc. Students will require a pair of high tops or similar street type shoe for hip hop.
Acrobatics
Students are able to wear a BDA leotard (1) or Crop (3) with BDA Shorts (4) or BDA 3/4 Tights (5). No shoes are to be worn in acro. Boys wear white BDA singlet (9) with black BDA shorts (8).
Ready Set Dance
Girls are to wear the Tutu Dress (11) and socks (12), and also have the option of wearing the Long Sleeve pull over (13) in cooler weather. There are several optional accessories available including the Hair Clips, Pom Poms, Hats, Bags and Dolls. The boys are to wear the RSD shirt (19) and the BDA shorts (8). Girls need tan tap and jazz shoes, and boys need black tap and jazz shoes.
